THE LEGACY OF ALBERT COOL

Albert Cool, he tried a tightrope in the middle of the town
And he vowed to keep on walking ‘til his feet would touch the ground
The people all stood staring, knowing Albert was not ‘right’
And their fears had turned to shame as he walked into the night
The wire was above the ground, but beneath the silver blue
And Albert was beneath the sky, above the faded hues
He had to keep his balance and he had to hold his faith
He had to keep on smiling and he had to keep his pace
The walking was the easy part, getting lower was trying
But he knew that if he failed he would rather go out dying
He hated being the first one and the last one in-between
He had to build his tower and keep his name clean
Looking down he saw a girl with ribbons in her hair
And he loved the way she looked at him without a budging stare
He knew what he was doing was for the good of all mankind
Albert knew that by walking he’d leave his legacy behind
The walking was getting easier and the ground was drawing nearer
And the crowd just kept on staring as his mission grew more dearer
He held his fingers heavenwards as he made that final jump
And his feet touched the ground with a reassuring thump
The crown had gone insane with his landing on the fore
And they wondered how he knew it – how he’d always been so sure
They shook his hands most graciously and they spoke for quite a while
And Albert Cool, tightrope accomplished, retired with a smile
